Soil vitality & health

A healthy soil contains organic matter and a rich mix of microorganisms that live in close association with the plant roots, making micronutrients more available and offering enhance resistance against aggressive fungi and bacterial infection.

These populations are normally disrupted by external factors such as weather conditions or poor agronomical practises. Itaka’s products enhance the development of these communities. This can be in the form of seed treatments, where the beneficial organisms are present when roots begin to form, or applied directly to the soil ahead of plant emergence.

The area directly around the plant roots is called the Rhizosphere, where microorganisms such as mycorrhizal fungi have a mutually beneficial relationship with the plant roots. Many of Itaka’s products contain microorganisms that have a positive role in the Rhizosphere and improve soil health.
